Early History

The research activity on "Quantum Well Solar Cells" officially started in September 1989 thanks to a grant paid by the Greenpeace Trust.

Greenpeace Environmental Trust

The grant provided support for a Research Assistant to work with Keith Barnham on the project for a few years. The first student supported by EPSRC started his PhD on a Departmental studentship in October 1989.

The first EPSRC grant was awarded to Keith Barnham in May 1990.
